Chocolate Protein Avocado Smoothie

With Memorial Day Weekend behind us, and a heat wave in SF, it is officially starting to feel like summer! And with that comes the craving for more cold and refreshing smoothie bowls.

And while I love a smoothie bowl – I’m not big on loading up my smoothies with a ton of fruit and sugar. I love the creaminess a banana adds to smoothies, but I prefer to start my mornings with limited sugar.

ENTER – the avocado smoothie. A frozen avocado is the PERFECT way to get all the creaminess you crave in a smoothie bowl, without all the sugar, plus a ton of health benefits.

1/2 an avocado contains 6.5g of fiber, only 2 net carbs / less than 1g of sugar! Avocados are also a great source of vitamin K, folate and potassium.  Avocados are also made of 71% monounsaturated fats, which are known for their heart health benefits.

This recipe uses Health Warrior Chocolate Superfood Protein Powder – a totally plant-based vegan protein powder that combines protein sourced from superfoods – pumpkin, hemp, chia & flax seeds – to deliver 20g of protein per serving. I love this protein powder because it has 6g of fiber, only 2 net carbs, and only 1g of sugar (from apple powder), PLUS probiotics to support healthy digestion.

I always add at least 20g of protein to my smoothies to ensure I actually stay FULL. I don’t know about you guys, but if I have a smoothie without enough protein and healthy fat, I’ll be hungry again within a couple hours. Protein is the most satiating macronutrient, which means its great at keeping you full and preventing unnecessary snacking between meals.

HOW TO DO IT

Combine the following and blend! Top with cacao nibs and coconut flakes

  • 1 scoop Health Warrior Chocolate Superfood Protein Powder
  • 1/2 frozen avocado
  • 1/2 cup frozen zucchini
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds soaked in 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder
  • 1-2 droppers liquid stevia
  • Couple dashes pink salt
  • 1 tbsp cacao nibs (optional)
  • 1/2 cup ice (to thicken)
